As much as Chase and I like blogging, we decided to request for it to be archived soon, and it will most likely happen next week.
I don’t have much to say, and I don’t know if Chase will log on to say a goodbye note, but we did have fun blogging for the time that we could. For me, I had fun, but I had difficulty making posts that weren’t always about episodes. Suppose I could if I had the time, but I didn’t.
Perhaps in the future we’ll come back. Who knows. For now, I will continue to comment on other anime blogs.
Thank you to RyanA and Siriru for commenting, since I know both have read the blog and commented a few times here.
And whoever else read our blog, thank you for reading.
I also dedicate this to any blogger that has continued to blog for over 2 years, because that is dedication. Anime blogging takes a lot of effort, time, and creativity to keep it going. I know blogging is not the best hobby for me but I enjoyed it while it lasted.

At first, I read this anime as “Go-Sick” but I realized I should read it as “Gossick” instead.
A transfer student from Japan has arrived in a small European country in 1924. His name is Kujo. As he arrived at his school, the other students fear him, for he is immediately dubbed “The Black Shinigami”. He settles into his new environment with little issues (other than a clingy teacher that is overly worried about his ability to find new friends).
He climbs up a rotating staircase to find a doll, dressed in black with long blond hair, that speculates his future. Freaked out by this, Kujo scrambles down the staircase. However, his overly happy teacher assures him she is not magicial doll and only a short girl. Well, loli.
Kujo (why does this remind me of that one scary dog film?!) and the girl (Victorique) merge to figure out the mystery of the Arabian Fortune teller and the maid that could talk Arabian. A man with a blond, unicorn-like hairstyle emerges from the elevator. They discuss the possible mystery of this fortune teller. Victorique, cunning as she is, figures out the mystery and Unicorn man takes credit the next day in the newspaper. Furious, Kujo almost lets out the truth in a hotel but he grabs Kujo away. Unicorn makes up for this by inviting Kujo and Victorique to a weekend cruise. Victorique is excited by this, for she has never gone outside the botanical garden for long.
At the last minute, Unicorn is pulled away from the boat due to news of the maid’s escape. Kujo, turns around to find Victorique gone, but gone inside the boat. She finds a clue to where the fortune teller is at. First episode ends with a melancholy tune.
I like when I watch anime series but I have no background information on them. I feel like I can more fun interpreting without any clues. Gosick feels something like umineko no koro ni(that one series with Beatrice in it, correct me if I’m identifying the wrong title). European setting with mysteries. They’re getting pretty popular, aren’t they? This anime feels like a good casual watch to me.
I still have to download codecs since I got a new computer. If I ever get back to taking screenshots, I’ll probably take a few at a time. Also, trying out writing this way from memorization. Ohh advanced writing class has helped me so.
I really do want to watch this one. Slated for This spring 2011 season.
Apparently it’s another visual novel, and some contest is going around asking for “pantsu” designs for the anime. Way2cater to the market. The OP for the anime starts as a bird drifts through the sky, some lines in English are displayed, and the symbol of an angel’s wing behind the title is shown. This really reminds me of Air so I hope some good plot comes from this. The character’s eyes aren’t as long as other series’ characters, more cubical and small. The red circles surrounding the main characters reminds me of an RPG game. (select and kill your monster!) Also, the fact that the girls can go through floors hints this anime will deal with supernatural themes, however, will feature the usual school settling as in most visual novel adaptations.
Read this shojo manga a few days ago called Kitchen Princess. Najika Kazami is a girl who has a genius talent for cooking just about anything(even cake!). She transfers to Seika Academy to pursue her dream of becoming a professional chief and finding her Flan prince-a boy who saved her life when she was going to drown herself because her parents had just died. (Cake is life saving).
Najika is loved by the people who enjoy her cake, and disliked by some jealous girls throughout the manga. Najika gains the friendship of one of them named Akane, and makes her eat again because she went on an extreme diet to be more “fit” for modeling. The plot is a little off. It reminds me of Full Moon when the person she 1st liked, Sora, dies after getting hit by a truck(why does this always happen…) But in a Full Moon sense if Mitsuki’s friend died during the manga instead. The other son, Daichi, of the academy’s president takes over and does what he can to keep Najika at the academy since most people blamed her for Sora’s death. Through hardships, Najika overcomes whatever the president throws at her as well as solving the communication problem with his son. Najika finds out that Sora is the one that made the flan, and Daichi gave the flan to Najika instead. In the end, Najika finds her flan prince and live happily ever after to pursue her dream as a professional chief.
What I liked about this manga (and not just about food) is Najika’s enthusiasm for food. She observes people to what types of foods he or she wants, and uses her talent to please people. She stumbles at sometimes, but manages to find her way again. The manga thought me that in stories, there’s a deeper meaning in stories and in the world of anime, most people seem to forget the lessons anime teach us. I don’t have to write a wall of text but I think thinking beyond the surface and finding the true meaning in anime or in a manga, it’s more rewarding to me than just buying some merchandise.
I got more satisfaction reading Kitchen Princess than any other shojo despite the stereotypical girl between 2 boys plot.
Finished Durarara a few days ago. Man, this would be epic as a live action drama. Yay light novels.
Ordinary people in un ordinary lives. Mikado Ryuugamine, Masaomi Kida, and Anri Sonohara both have secrets of their own. One is the leader of the Dollars website (anonymous like 4chan but less provoking like 4chan website), one is the leader of Yellow Scarves, a gang in Ikebukuro, and one posses a sword called Saika that can control other people.
In this city tale, the 3 supposedly live normal lives until other un-ordinary people come. Celty the black biker/dullahan comes, Kida warns Mikado about the yellow scarves to protect him from gangs before he gets sucked in like he did, and tells him of how no one knows the Dollars’s leader. The episodes links with other episodes until midway in the series, where it is just a focus on one main plot: Our 3 main characters find about each other’s secrets, and stopping Kida kun from almost dying when an ex-Blue square gang member takes Kida’s gang over(along with Celty, Shizuo, and Kadota’s group). In the first half of the series, it was about the disappearance of Anri’s friend(Mika Harima), which turned out to be a stalker and stalked a boy she liked, which is Seiji Yagiri, which he is in love with Celty’s head that was stolen from her by someone using Saika (anri’s weapon that she found after her mother stabbed her father with), which got caught up in a pharmacy company by Seiji’s sister, Namie Yagiri. Celty eventually almost tries to chop Mika’s head off, but realizes it was only a copy to make Seiji be with her since Seiji loved the dullahan’s head instead. Also in the beginning, there is a girl that suffers a bit from finding out her father cheated on her mother, showed the evidence to her mother in the form of dropping it in her mailbox, but suffers that nothing changed. She tries to kill herself, but Izaya Orihara stops her and proves that somethings aren’t dying for. I never got why the girl would be worried if nothing happened.
So far, I think this series is worth watching if you want something like a miracle crossed in with superficial. I didn’t like how the episode with the girl almost suiciding relates to the plot other than showing Izaya is cunning and toying with humans, nor how it was so complicated in the beginning with plot loops and “You don’t see diz coming” plot twists, but then it wasn’t a plot twist thing at the end and all finding out the trio’s secrets. I thought DRRR could have done something else with the police and Celty and Shinra’s dad taking another role other than coming to visit Shinra and giving some info to Izaya. (I think I might miss what he said during that part) I also didn’t get why Namie Yagiri ended up to be Izaya’s secretary. I guess it had to due with the whole pharmacy thing in the middle of the series. In the end, everyone moved on with life, and still get together and chat in the online chatroom. Plus Simon smacking Izaya was pretty awesome too at the end.
Well it’s been awhile since I’ve done a review and my very existance (I’m Canadian, so yes, that is the correct spelling [-sticks tongue out at spell check that refuses to understand]) has become so minimal that my mom accidentally forgot about me and went to the Rib fest without me (the first time). She came to get me a few hours after, and the second time, she forgot I was with her and almost drove away. Dx So, to once again reaffirm my existance to the internets, I will take my shirt off and show you the power of a thousand suns. No. I’m kidding. It’s just a review… WITH THE POWER OF A THOUSAND SUNS.
The Episode
Well, we’ll keep it nice and short for the summary of this episode. Why? Because of the 4koma nature, there really isn’t a plot to cover. The episode covers Chapters 1-3 of the manga faithfully. It does have some additional scenes, but as a whole everything from the 30 or so pages of chapters 1-3 is covered in the episode. We are introduced to the main protagonist, Tsuda Takatoshi, who has decided to attend an all-girls school that has recently gone co-ed. Why? Because it’s the manly thing to do.
He’s a man among men.
The other characters are then introduced after a bit of a coming to school scene.
The student council president, Amakusa Shino, comes off as a sexually curious person, a bit immature in that aspect.
Maturity < Immaturity
The next character, the student council accountant, Hagimura Suzu, is a short returnee (someone who was originally in Japan but went abroad) who has an IQ of 180.
HOWEVER! She despises being called short.
Lastly, we’ve got the student council secretary, Shikijou Aria, is the airheaded motherly figure of the group. Naturally she goes along with the student council president’s innuendo cracks.
The Series as a Whole
So this anime has been out for awhile now, a few weeks at the least. What does the reader think about it? I find that it’s actually pretty hilarious. It stays true to the manga, even with the sexual innuendo. Though there were some jokes I did not get, and we’ll all just laugh it off any way; they’re probably Japanese culture jokes any way. Now before anyone rips on the layout of the anime, one must understand that one of the more difficult animes to adapt are the ones based off 4Koma mangas. Why? Let me explain with the pow-
The studio must decide to either have the anime work linear (straight) in that it will proceed without skit introductory frames (Think Azumanga Daioh, or did it have those? [Hasn't watched it in so long]); or it will work periodically (Math much?) where it will have skit introductories and interruptions, such as this one: Luckily, the introductory frames are named differently, and don’t happen as often as in a 4koma manga, thus we’ve got less of an eyesore.
The studio must decide if it will follow the manga faithfully, or if it will have its own original stories and skits. In the case of Seitokai Yakuindomo, I find that it follows the manga perfectly.
So two reasons really. And it all makes sense. Some might find that this anime isn’t their kind of thing, with it having little of a plot or a rising/falling action to it. Yet, those who found some LOL’s and some good old LMAO’s (Not LMFAO, they’re in Miami trick) out of shows like Lucky Star, or Azumanga Daioh might find them here, all three of them having originated from 4koma mangas and having little plot or action. I actually like the anime, and the layout that the studio decided to go about it.
Opening and Ending Songs
To be honest with you all, the opening and ending songs from this anime for me really topped a lot of the openings and endings from anime this season. They’re solid tracks and the animation works out for them. The opening is “Yamato Nadeshiko Education” by Triple Booking. This song is an original song made for the anime itself, which I assume is sung by the three female seiyuus of the student council. The animation is crisp and we are given a good idea of what the anime and the episode itself will be about, so in other words, it gives a clear glimpse of the content.
The ending song… Wow. In my opinion, this is the Summer anime seasons, and possibly one of this years best ending song. The song itself is Aoi Haru by Angela. When was the last time we’ve heard the group Angela in an anime song? It’s really been awhile. Although I kind of feel this song is different from their usual style (I haven’t been listening to Angela lately so it might have been like this for awhile now) but I feel the song itself is solid. The ending sequence, is perfect, except it lacks relevance to the anime itself. So a highly relevant opening song, and an irrelevant ending song? But first time hearing and watching the ending sequence and song, I knew I liked the song that first time around. I know what I’m going to look on Nipponsei for in a few weeks. But, I highly recommend you support Angela and buy the album.
To Conclude
I’m definitely going to follow this anime on the blog, it’s a pleasure to write the posts for this one and it’s enjoyable to watch it. In other news, I’ve dropped Amagami SS, but we all knew that was going to happen.
Yeah. I used an .avi for this review. Bandwidth limits are the fail.
A bit behind in my reviews, but that’s okay. Unlike bears, we Headphone/Mmorpg/Jones Soda/Pen spinning Otakus (I’m sure there are a lot of us) tend to hibernate in the summer. Any way, moving on.
Let’s play a little word association game, first thing to come to your mind when you think of Amagami SS?
[Insert Answer Here (Yes I Insist On Having Everything Capitalized)]
For me, the first few things I thought about (which was more of a sequential set of thoughts if you think about it) were Kimikiss Pure Rouge, and Enterbrain.
Amagami SS is an all-ages dating simulation (though I really wouldn’t consider that all-ages [Imagine a seven year old playing those kinds of games... Wait a minute...]) published by Enterbrain (Think Famitsu magazine, one of Japan’s most popular video game news magazines). From my knowledge Enterbrain has only published one other dating simulation, Kimikiss, which ended up with its own anime adaptation. Any way, I caught the character design similarities even if it was a whole other animation studio working on the anime. Call that pro, but I’d like to think it’s just that the coffee crisp I just ate made me widen my eyes.
The Episode
The Morishima Haruka Arc
It would appear that each female heroine will have her own arc, and seeing as how they plan to do so, I highly doubt they’d make it into some harem, or School Days-esque development so we’ll just assume that each new arc will start off from about the same point in time.
The episode starts with some backstory about how our main character got stood up on Christmas eve two years prior to the present time in the anime. Ouch, but as you’ll see later on in the review, you can’t really find yourself feeling bad for him.
The episode proceeds (after the opening song and sequence which I found to be really err…dull?) with your stereotypical sister character going to wake up her nii-nii. Except the set-up isn’t that stereotypical considering he’s NUDE IN SPACE!
Perhaps it’s because YOU’RE NAKED IN SPACE?
Actually, he’s in his closet, but then again that’s not even normal… Is it? I wake up in my closet sometimes, but this guy’s even got a futon and a planetarium in his closet he drew with highlighter. (Sharpies for the win?)
On his way to school the main character, Tachibana Junichi, encounters “the second son of the sushi chef, my best friend who’s been in my class since elementary school, Umehara Masayoshi?” It’s then, on his way to school that we see a few of the female characters. And the arc’s title character, Morishima Haruka, a third year whom Junichi is attracted to.
Definitely wasn’t expecting that.
At lunchtime, Junichi, Kaoru and Masayoshi play Jan ken pon to decide who has to be the breadrunner. Who else but our sterotypical main character? \o/
Wow, this sucks, I’ve just encountered the stereotypical ‘crowd surrounding the bread counter’ scene.
After helping a first year get bread, Junichi catches the eyes of Morishima-senpai who helps him up after he slips and drops his bag of bread. She compliments him and leaves him dazed and smelling the remnants of her scent. Creep much?
Throughout the episode the two have run-ins around the school and from that point he decides, that he wants to try again (and not get stood up again this time).
They once again encounter one another where she jumps on him and makes suggestive sounds and movements. To follow with that, he has a conversation with her. Throughout this whole conversation, the word FAKE ran through my head. I don’t think I can even blame the seiyuu for this one, the dialogue’s just crappy.
Best scene ever?
The two run into Junichi’s sister who gets jealous and runs off. Of course, our “hero” is off in his own little world thinking of his sister and Morishima taking a bath together.
Finally the episode ends with our “hero”, Junichi, confessing to Morishima and getting rejected! Whoo! It couldn’t be that easy. One episode and he gets the girl? Not going to happen. But seeing as how it’s an arc, he’ll probably keep trying and trying like a fly until he’s swatted. Bzzt.
The Series as a whole
For the most part the characters are flat and rely heavily on stereotypical aspects, but considering how this is from a dating simulator (as opposed to a visual novel, manga, light novel) I kind of expected it. The plot’s weak, and so is the pacing. Pacing isn’t a problem, I understand slow pacing in romance anime. However, the episode lasts 24 minutes and 19 seconds and even then, I swear the dialogue only ended up being about ten lines. The summer 2010′s first romance anime (Unless you find High School of the Dead or Digimon Xros Wars romantic…) and it really brought me down. They did attempt a bit of humour, but even then I couldn’t find myself laughing at it or even smiling. Character designs are decent, character personality is weak. But maybe that’s because I’ve begun reading that Haruki Murakami novel I’ve been putting off for so long. I’ve read that it gets intense later on with some backstory for each heroine (especially the class rep). Let’s hope it sticks to that plan, because this generic episode was too much for me to even consider calling it anime.
Anyone else want to make a closet planetarium now?
Opening and Ending Songs
The opening is called “i Love” by azusa. It’s a pretty basic song and at times I find it catchy, and then it kills itself off. Notable line from the song: “I love you forever with you.”
The ending song will change for each arc and will be sung by the heroine of their respective arcs. The ending song for this arc is, “Kimi no Hitomi ni Koishiteru” by Shizuka Itou. This song’s got a rock feel to it and is accompanied by some stills and a bit of animation all of Haruka Morishima.
To Conclude
I’m not a heartless person, I’ll give it another chance in the episode to come. But if even that episode were to bring me down as much as this one did for me, I think I’ll drop this anime. Screenblock nao?
This really makes me sound old, but back in the day there were no usage limits, and it’s only recently started to get on my nerves. Last I checked, my usage was at 9 or so GB out of 25. Yet, somehow, just a week after, it’s hopped to 19 GB. 25 GB really wasn’t really reasonable in the first place. I did some looking into and there are other ISP services that have a higher usage limit. But my parents like to stick with the big names after all… So what shall I do? I’ve decided to get an arubaito, that is, a part-time job. I’ve applied to a few places already. I guess that’s an achievement for myself. This way I can start that headphone collection I’ve been itching to get started on. Yeah, I’m an audiophile. Any way, I’ve decided to take some precautions for myself for the future. Now I’ve downloaded an offline blogging program, this why I wouldn’t have to write my blog posts online and I can focus my bandwidth mainly on what’s important. Anime, mmos, and NEOPETS. No I’m kidding about that last one, I’ve only been visiting it every once in awhile… Call it a guilty pleasure if you must. Any way, so to give this post more of a reason than as a rant, until the bill comes in for my internet, I may or may not be using lower quality screenies. But then again, it’s not that much more expensive if I exceed the limit by a bit. We’ll see.
How about some eye-candy for the reader for putting up with my rant?
I’ve never actually tried these before, but then again, eye haven’t gone trick-or-treating in a long while. Here’s a bit of a preview of what’s to come on the blog:
First Breath of Amagami SS
First Breath of Seitokai Yakuindomo
Edit: Man what’s wrong with WordPress and how it handles images?
The premiere of this series marks the first episode of July (also Canada day \o/) and the official start of the anime Summer season. They’ll keep churning out from here, so we’ll be getting in a bit of work for the summer.
This series itself is an adaptation of a series of light novels by Masashi Okita. So why did I decide to watch this series? Was it impatience for the other series’ (i.e High School of the Dead, Shiki)? Perhaps. Was it because the main character looks like a grown-up Taiga? YES. I have a feeling that’s what everyone thought of first when they saw the preview images.
The Episode
Now that we’ve got more than just the pictures themselves, is this series how the reader thought it would be? I actually found myself expecting a lot of what was going to happen after the first few minutes of the episode. The episode starts off with a knife-wielding run-of-the-mill delinquent stalker running away from the members of the Otogi Bank. More specifically, our grown-up Taiga look alike and little Red Riding hood, Akai Ringo. During the conflict, the delinquent is cornered by the Taiga look alike (whose name is revealed to be Ookami Ryouko). Ryouko manages to subdue the super evil villian stalker using a pair of customized kitty boxing gloves and with the help of a rock throwing marksman from the shadows… The episode transits to an image of an angry Ryouko with unsuitable music playing in the background. Hooray for half-arsed transitions. I do hope they’ve got a fully functional opening sequence by the next episode.
The rest of the episode serves as both an introduction to the members of Otagi Bank and an introduction to a boy infatuated with Ryouko, Morino Ryoushi, and his pathetic attempt to ask Ryouko out and impress her. This guy’s far from Toradora’s Ryuuji, more or less we find out he’s probably the most pathetic main male character to exist in the history of anime, even surpassing the likes of Akitsuki Yamato from Suzuka. He suffers from scopophobia, that is, the fear of being stared at. They play on this fear throughout the episode. -Stares-
Plot-wise the episode itself is able to pull through with a full 24 minutes and three seconds with its many introductions and Ryoushi’s first case as a member of Otogi Bank: Prevent the school’s “Prince of Tennis” from resigning. They manage to do this almost at the last minute. And all it takes… is a falcon kick.
I spent an hour or so getting used to making gifs again just for this episode. It was well worth it and I do hope that you readers will enjoy this err, “beautiful scene.” Now from another P.O.V!
The episode ends with the knife-wielding gangster taking revenge on Ryouko and Ryoushi acting like a meat shield to redeem himself. I really do hope that there is some character development within the series because as it stands, my only favorite characters are the narrator for her teasing personality and Majolica, whom we don’t even get to know too well besides that brief moment where she brings out her pumpkin carriage.
“It’s the bicycle pumpkin!” “It’s fuel efficient!”
“That. Is the face of a winner.”
After the episode they add a little of an extension to the case, where they reveal that the Prince of Tennis and his Cinderella live happily ever after. Awww.
“Were they about to pull a tenso there?”
“That’s how.”
The series as a whole
It looks like the series as a whole won’t have one full plot but several stories presented as cases for the Otogi Bank club. The club itself seems to do favours for others, while demanding favours in return for their work. Sounds like it could work, but since when were club rooms this nice? D: It doesn’t even seem like a school for the rich like Ouran High School was known for.
J.C staff’s animation doesn’t really shine here, looks like they’ve left all their shine for Shakugan the third Season and To Aru the second. I do think that with only 13 episodes announced, this series’ will have to pull out a plot that’ll keep us watching until its end.
Opening and Ending Songs
Most websites list that the song played during the ending sequence will be the opening song for the series. That means, we’re missing an ending song and an opening sequence (alternatively we have an opening song and an ending sequence). The opening song is “Ready Go!” by May’n while the ending song will be “Akazukin-chan Goyoujin” by a group called the Otogi8 (clearly it’ll be sung by some of the female Seiyuus).
To conclude
Well, if this series fails, we’ve still got a whole slew of other series’ to fall back upon. I know I’ll keep watching this one, just for the sake of watching how this scopophobe develops. But oh man I think I’m going to have a problem writing that title out each episode. Screen block nao?
Note to Siriru: Don’t Spoil this episode for yourself!
We knew it was coming, we all did. A lot of us didn’t want it. For me, it was and probably will remain as one of 2010′s best animes (and might even just remain on my top anime list for a long time) for its compelling plot (Compelling can be taken in both a good and bad way), character depth (compared to others of this season…), and for its touching conclusion (that some argue to have been painfully rushed but I beg to differ). A lot of Jun Maeda’s works with Key have done that for me, Air, Clannad, Kanon; for me, Angel Beats! had done the same. But compared to the previously mentioned works by Jun Maeda, I don’t see it being a top contender, I reserve that for Kanon or Air. Nevertheless it brought together an unlikely group of people’s stories and weaved them together, only to pull loose each string and describe them in detail after discarding them. There are some flaws to the plot, yet it still has a coherent basis to it. Well… Dragging on now. Here’s my own version of the finale of Angel Beats!
There's no place like h- Oh? I'm back.
No. But it wasn't a dream - it was a place. And you! And you! And you! And you were there!
Hmm. You do notice you wet the bed just then, right?
Huh? ... W-wha...
I didn't! I really didn't! Doesn't anyone believe in me?
Not really.
END
That my friends is the conclusion. They even managed to wiggle in a bit of a sub-plot into the episode too (refer to after the screen block).
Spoiler now…
Tyler Durden isn’t real.
About the episode:
The episode begins with the last five members of the Shindai Sekai Sensen (including Kanade) in the School Infirmary after the previous episode’s somewhat climactic battle with the shadows and a bunch of PCs (… I suppose the anime studio uses Macs …). Each of them have already found their resolves and are ready to “pass” (although they’re already dead). Yet, before they can do that, they wish to hold a graduation ceremony; complete with graduation anthems, certificates, and a speech. After the graduation ceremony, each of the members say their farewells, starting with Naoi, then Yuri, then Hinata until Tachibana and Otonashi are left. The two exit the building, and once outside, Otonshi expresses his desire to stay in the “afterlife” world. He confesses his love to Tachibana hoping she would stay. Tachibana explains that she met Otonashi through her own desire, and that because of his heart, she was able to have a life (though to be in this world also means that she died /o\). The episode ends with the ending song in which each member of the SSS begin to disappear. Even after this they slipped in a scene of what appears to be Otonashi and Tachibana reincarnated into two people who happen to meet one another (This wasn’t really necessary huh? I swear the ending song’s “passing” of the characters was enough).
C-c-c-c-combo breaker much? His profession of his love really was last minute, but it did add to a touching aspect to the conclusion. There’s probably already people pointing out the possible flaw that Otanashi couldn’t have arrived after Tachibana when he died first. I personally think that the episode did what it could to explain that, that he was a “special” case that defied the rules of the “afterlife”. Tachibana could also be considered the same in a way, though she came to the “afterlife” with the intense desire to meet Otonashi. Perhaps she was brought there by fate for an undefined time before him, and that after dying he did not instantly go to the “afterlife”. The episode ends with a few unanswered questions. Even Maeda and the studio have shown that they understand that the brief 13 episode series wasn’t enough to fully portray the story that Maeda wanted. Here’s a bit from Wikipe-tan:
The Aniplex producer of Angel Beats!, Hironori Towa, was interviewed in the November 2009 issue of Dengeki G’s Magazine, where he commented that a 13-episode anime with about 21 minutes per episode was not enough to tell the whole story of Angel Beats! Maeda had envisioned. Therefore, the various additional media, such as the illustrated short stories and manga, contain some of the story that was unable to make it into the anime because of time constraints. Towa wanted fans of the series to be able to enjoy it to the fullest by exploring all of the media types.
Well there you have it, they knew it wasn’t going to be the conclusion that it should have been even before the series aired. Goes to show a bit about planning. But I enjoyed this series thoroughly. Although this may not be Maeda’s best work, I feel that it is a stepping stone for him, to have come up with the script without having his script first adapted into a visual novel, and then to compose the bulk of the music and lyrics. His effort showed, and it wasn’t really much of the fault of him, but of time constraints (I feel that he should have taken a bit more time to develop and work out the story and smooth out any bumps/flaws). This still remains one of my favorites of this year, and that my friends, is a wrap! Now onto the summer season!
Did anyone read this script before we adapted it into an anime?!
I did.
Idiots…
There’s no place like h- Oh? I’m back.
No. But it wasn’t a dream – it was a place. And you! And you! And you! And you were there!
Huh? … W-wha…
Hmm. You do notice you wet the bed just then, right?
I didn’t! I really didn’t! Doesn’t anyone believe in me?
Not really.
